two ways of not being noticed, silence and obscurity -- but the first is chosen, the second either chosen or imposed from outside, silence is personal, obscurity social ... but of course you don't say silence here, but silent, the adjective appended to the noun, dependent. a suggestion that one is bound to the other? or cause and effect -- keeping silent leads to obscurity?
perhaps it is a matter of temperament, but i tend to see obscurity as a positive, keeping to the shadows, veiled from public attention. this is, perhaps, a prescription for a certain kind of happiness ...
